Science:

Science consists of a big faculty, including 9 departments and schools. Students can find support through the general science associate dean’s office, career and cooperative education office, and McMaster Science Society. In addition, each department provides support through advisors and student bodies. Student bodies can be further divided into program specific student societies. Be sure to follow them on social media!

Peer Mentorship Programs:

Students can find mentorship programs within the McMaster Science Society (MSS), and within the student society of their program of choice entering level II. The mentorship program offered by MSS connects students in Levels II, III, and IV of the science program. This enables students to make connections and provides an opportunity for authentic academic and peer support. In addition to MSS, student society within each program under the faculty of science offers mentorship programs for level II students!

Science Career and Cooperative Education Office:

The SCCE office helps students with career exploration, resume/CV workshops, mock interviews, Co-op applications etc. Drop in to their office at BSB!

I am in Health Science. What about me?

Research space in the Health Sciences Centre is reserved to programs, departments and individual researchers through the HRS office. If additional research space is required please contact the HRS office. Office and research space is handled through the department or the program administrator.

Kinesiology:

Follow McMaster Kinesiology Society for events and support such as mentorship programs. If you need support academically, you can talk to the academic advisor in the Department of Kinesiology. For further details such as scholarships and awards, experiential learning, go to McMaster Faculty of Science Department of Kinesiology website.

Nursing:

You are automatically a member of McMaster University Nursing Students Society (MUNSS) if you are a BScN student at McMaster University, Mohawk College or Conestoga College. They offer a Nursing upper-year buddy (NUP) mentorship program to support nursing students. If you need advice regarding your study, they have academic advising specific to the School of Nursing.

I’m not in these programs. What support services are available to me?

Counseling through the Student Wellness Center

You can book your initial appointment with a counselor by calling 905–525–9140 x 27700. Collectively you will be able to explore support options and decide on your pathways to receive support.

Academic Advising

Academic Advisors are available to assist you with any problems or questions you may have specific to your faculty. This includes course selections, changes to your enrolment, McMaster Student Absence Form (MSAF), Religious, Indigenous, or Spiritual Observances (RISO) forms, exams, taking courses at another university (for credit at McMaster), Petitions for Special Consideration, and much more.
